Perang Dua Setengah Jam Untuk Pemohonan Pasport Malaysia di Jabatan Imigresen Setia Tropika (Two and Half Hours War for Passport Application)

Arrived Kementerian Dalam Negeri Setia Tropika Johor Bahru (map) at 7:05am, people queued in front of main gate. Abt 25 people ahead of me. Most of them are heading to immigration department, Malaysia passport, either new application or renewal.

At 7:20am, security guard informed people NOT to queue, and that created unhappy situation as many people arrived very early just to take the first queue. At 7:30am, main gate opened, everybody ran 100m to rush to Block 1 ground floor to queue for ticket number.

I managed to get number 38.

Went up to 3rd floor of immigration department at 7:40am (same building). When I reached, number 8 is called.

At 7:50am, I noticed number 1 has been called to collect collection slip.

8:00am, number 23 is called. My turn soon!

8:09am, my number is called. Paid RM300 for 5 years Malaysia passport.

Guess what, system disconnected 2 times. Luckily it get restored and processing done by 8:16am.

Proceeded to counter 25. Collected the receipt cum collection slip at 8:24am. I was informed to go counter 11 after one hour. Great! Time for breakfast.

9:30am, dropped the collection slip into a box at counter 11. Hurray! Got my new Malaysia passport (48 pages) at 9:34pm.

A good experience for me at Setia Tropika immigration office.

Whole process took 2.5 hours, which is an improvement compared to last time. However, things can be further improved, e.g. Queue Ticket issuing process, online application, etc.

Points:

- 2 photograph shops available outside main gate.

- 4 photos for RM 12. Normal price outside is RM 9.

- Form filling service available at photograph shop, I heard they charge RM 8 per form.

- Passport form is available free at the ticket counter, just get into the queue first, officer will distribute free passport form.

- Seems I'm the only one use the online form. The online passport form is acceptable.

- I brought original I/C, photocopy of I/C, 2 photos, existing passport, and of course, the form.

Yes, the machine will read the chip in your I/C for verification.

If your Malaysia IC chip is not working, you may get stuck.
