Renew Malaysia Passport Within 2 hours?!

Yesterday, my wife renewed her passport at Kementerian Dalam Negeri (map), Setia Tropika, Johor Bahru. It was done within 2 hours! Impressive, from the time we parked our car till the time of passport collection, it takes only 1 hour 20 minutes.

It was Friday, we reached Setia Tropika at 11.40am, walked to block 1 to collect queue number. The officer at ground floor office told us the queue number issuing is at level 3 now.

Proceeded to 3rd floor, Jabatan Imigresen, Bahagian Pasport. It was 11.49am.

Surprisingly, no queue. We were called immediately after queue number is issued.

Within 10 minutes, all verification done, fees paid. (Note: officer told us photocopy of I/C is not needed for renewal).

Waited for another 10 minutes, receipt was issued to us at another counter. We dropped our receipt into the passport collection box (another counter again) after 15 mins. Got our passport ready at 1pm, wow!! Thumbs up to Bahagian Pasport, Jabatan Imigresen.

did they have a photo booth like usual?

No birth cert required. There is no photo booth in immigration office, but there are a few photo shops available outside.
